Teaching Points and Activities

For each teaching step, in every stage of the programme, key teaching points are explained so that teachers have a good understanding of what children need to learn. The teaching points also introduce the models used in each section. The teaching points can be printed out for other adults working with the children to make sure the same language is used and the same points are emphasised. Suggestions for practical activities and games which introduce each concept are also provided for both the classroom and for at home.

Animations

A series of animations develops children's understanding of number and quantity. The animations expose the mathematical structures in number and calculation, and relate equation solving to every day contexts. This deepens understanding which supports fluency. The animations provided for each teaching step are progressive; scaffolds are withdrawn through each teaching sequence as the children build confidence and understanding.

Progressive Pupil Exercises

There is a set of pupil exercises for each teaching step in the programme. The exercises can be printed out from the portal or snipped and inserted into lesson slides. Visual images are provided to support the understanding of each concept and provide scaffolding for the children. The exercises are progessive, with prompts gradually withdrawn as the children's fluency develops. All of the exercises come with Talking Tips at the bottom of the page. These tips provide support to adults on what to draw out on each page and the language to use to reinforce learning. Parents have found the talking tips very useful when sheets have been sent home.
