Achieving fluency in number facts. The origins of Number Sense Maths.
This article was published in the NCETM magazine in 2017 and summarised our thinking at the time. The response to it convinced us that we weren't the only people looking for a more systematic way to teach number facts.
We spent the following 3 years developing a number facts programme for everyone to use. We have mapped strategies for subtraction facts (at the time of the article that grid was blank!), read even more, talked and thought, tried things out in the classroom, asked other people to try things out, developed and honed. The result is Number Sense Maths.
